NBC Dodoma Marathon has become a cornerstone in Tanzania’s healthcare landscape, driving meaningful and lasting change with a primary focus on maternal health and the development of healthcare professionals. Over the past five years, this event has proven to be a critical platform for raising funds to support essential initiatives, such as cervical cancer awareness and maternal healthcare services. This year, we are expanding our focus to address the growing demand for specialized care, particularly in the fields of autism and Down syndrome. In partnership with the Benjamin Mkapa Foundation and the Ministry of Health, we are introducing scholarships for special care nurses. This initiative seeks to fill a critical gap in the healthcare sector by training professionals to address developmental disabilities, a field that has historically been underserved due to lack of awareness and qualified personnel. Our commitment to maternal health improvement is rooted in the belief that access to skilled care—whether through midwifery or pediatric services—is essential to reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. Through funding scholarships for both midwifery and special care nursing, we are ensuring that Tanzania has a robust and well-trained workforce to support women and children during their most vulnerable moments.
